morrissey was light years ahead of his time, he probably still is.

Here is a copy of the rant I posted Martin Smith regarding the king of indie being a facist.

Heres my rant;

Just writing in response to,
Column by Martin Smith, May 2006, Morrissey and the love that dares not sing it's name.

Decent piece of journalism, all except for the part concerning, 'NF' Disco. You are obviously either new to Morrissey, have not read/listened to the lyrics, or have no intelligence. You still claiming the 'NF Disco' is a racist song glorifying the far right. If you actually listened to the song properly you would understand that Moz, is singing in the third person about a young man called David who embraces the NF and buys into their philosophy that all his problems are down to immigration/foreigners/black/asian communities etc. The young man 'David' finds his hopes and dreams blown away so he embraces the NF and attends the disco's, gatherings (the disco is just a way in which the NF can infiltrate the youth). If you listened to the song you would realize that Moz is explaining how the NF never lives up to the ideology and tide of change that it promises these young men. David is one of millions of young men who have joined the NF under the pretense that they will be part of a tide of change or political revolution, but as always it never comes, why because it isn't a credible cause. NF Disco starts of with stirring optimism, pride and right wing endeavor, 'England for the English', hi-lighting the primary cause of the 'NF' yet the song like most right wing movements soon loses it's glamour and direction hence the lyrics, "David we wonder, we wonder if the thunder is ever really gonna begin' the thunder Morrissey is referring to is the revolutionary promise that the NF/BNP promises all of it's young members, and he is questioning wether it will really happen or is it just desperate propaganda to carry on recruiting young men to what is a dying political movement. Moz tells us that instead of full-filling the promises the NF makes to its young men i.e. employment/national pride/safety, it merely creates narrow minded individuals who become detached from their life, family, work and social obligations hence the lyric,
"Your Mum says, I've lost my boy, but she should know why you go because again and again you've explained...".
This refers to the reasons the individual 'David' joined the NF are different from the reasons why he choses to remain in the NF. Ultimately National front disco tells the story of a young man who attends NF gatherings and is radicalized into believing that all his problems are down to other races/cultures/faiths. Yet far from answering or solving his problems the NF only succeeds in driving a wedge between these men and their society/community and most important their family. You should remember that Mozz generally writes from a northern, white perspective, and this topic, has controversial as it may be still exist and is ever present in the U.K. Would you rather Morrissey was writing hip hop, promoting gun and gang violence amongst young black and asian men. No I don't think so. Maybe you should concentrate on how certain genres of todays music are giving children totally warped views of what is tolerable in modern britain.
I hope you find time in the future to address this issue and i can only conclude that you are not familiar with Morrissey's work. Because I think nearly every music/media/press group has realized that Morrissey was not condoning the far right. The fact that that Moz jumped on stage at a madness concert in front of 8,000 skin heads and sang a song about the inconsistencies within their political leaning is brave. No one ever seems to address the fact that them same skin heads were quickly aware that NF Disco was mocking them and proceeded to throw missiles and spit at him. Also that amongst the BNP/Far right Morrissey is reviled, after all he is an a-sexual, gladioli waving, irish, catholic, vegetarian, socialist who hates the far-right and establishment who is a constantly sexually ambiguous, virgin (until recently). He is hardly a candidate for the Hitler youth. The fact that you write for the socialist review and have failed to recognize all what I have mentioned leads me to think that you are a un intelligent liberal do-gooder who fills his column inches with mush. Though you could redeem yourself by simply running a small article clarifying the idea/motivation/back ground behind the whole 'NF Disco' episode and doing some fucking research in future. I would be only to happy to take your position with the Socialist review and would happily write intelligible truths rather than sensationalized garbage. The NF Disco was not even picked up by the general public, it is idiots like yourself and the NME who drew attention to the NF.

Yours truly, a smiths/Morrissey fan and a true socialist.
R.
